LOCAL SPORTS: Oak Ridge knocks down 12 triples to deal Tri-Valley its 1st loss

ORLANDO, Fla. - For at least one half, Oak Ridge (Calif.) found the remedy to Tri-Valley's run-and-gun style and post game.

Led by Ali Bettencourt's 18 points - all on 3-pointers - the Trojans dealt the Dawgs their first loss of the season, beating Tri-Valley 58-49 in the KSA Holiday Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday morning.

Oak Ridge's 3-point shooting matched the balmy Florida weather as the Trojans connected on 12 triples, including four from Bettencourt in the decisive third-quarter run.

Tri-Valley took a 30-27 lead into halftime before the Trojans heated up from beyond the arc to surge ahead 52-42 early in the fourth quarter.

Tri-Valley sliced that deficit to 52-48 before Bettencourt nailed another trey to help ice the victory.

Seton Hall commit Tara Nahodil continued to dominate the post with a game-high 20 points for the Dawgs. Juli Weber added 13 points and Taylor Troutman contibuted 10 for Tri-Valley, which meets South Park from suburban Pittsburgh at 11:45 a.m. Monday in the third-place game of the Yellow Bracket.

H.S. Wrestling 4 Dawgs earn medals at Liberty tournament

BETHLEHEM - Tri-Valley 152-pounder Ty Schoffstall posted a 3-1 record and finished second in a 28-team field at Liberty's Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic.

Schoffstall notched two pins and a 12-6 decision over Central Dauphin's Austin Rose en route to the finals. There, Chad Walsh of Camden Catholic (N.J.) pinned Schoffstall in 4:27.

Hunter Harner (138) took fourth for the Dawgs, falling 6-1 to Big Spring's Chad Wickard in the bronze-medal bout.

Blake Bowman (145) also finished fourth after Wyoming Valley West's Cody Cordes edged him 1-0.

Caleb Bordner (120) placed sixth, dropping a 6-1 decison to Central Dauphin's Zach Elvin.

Panthers take 5th at Damascus event

DAMASCUS, Md. - Led by champion Rian Shubeck (14-1), Panther Valley finished fifth in the 21-team Damascus Holiday Tournament. Shubeck went 4-0 in earning his title.

Zach Glassic went 3-1 in placing second, while Richard Nase (12-4) and Lenny Ogozalek (12-3) both went 4-1 to finish third.

Darren Goida placed fifth; Dylan Moyer and Richie Smith took sixths; Matt Buss and Elijah Hibbler finished seventh; and Seth Oriel and Hunter Davidyock placed eighth.

2 Eagles place at PowerAde tourney

CANONSBURG - Ryan Guers (120) and Mitch Myers (170) placed eighth at the 46-team PowerAde Christmas Wrestling Tournament.

Guers went 3-3 in the event, dropping a 4-0 decision to Kevin Budock of Good Council (Md.) in a seventh-place bout.

Myers went 4-3, with two of those losses coming due to injury default in the consolations.

5 Cardinals place at Governor Mifflin

SHILLINGTON - Pine Grove's Eli Brill (145) wrestled to a third-place finish, leading the Cardinals at the Governor Mifflin Holiday Wrestling Tournament.

Ryan Martin (220) took fifth place; Danny Diaz-Walton (113) placed sixth; Guy Zimmerman (170) finished seventh; and Ryan Heim (138) placed eighth.

Tide have 2 placers at Christmas City

BETHLEHEM - Pottsville's Stan Burke (220) finished third and Luke Gardner (113) took fourth at the Christmas City Tournament.

In the consolation finals, Burke posted a 10-5 decision over Schuylkill Valley's Dante Giorgio. Gardner dropped a 3-0 decision to Dylan Booth of Port Jervis (N.Y.).

Host Bethlehem Catholic won the team title with eight champions and 310.5 points. Schuylkill Valley (145.5) finished second and Upper Perkiomen (130.5) was third. Pottsville took 15th in the 22-team field.

2 Hawks get silver at Conestoga Valley

LANCASTER - Sean Stanish (120) and Austin Bashore (195) earned runner-up finishes at the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic.

In the finals, Stanish dropped a 5-2 decision to Spring Grove's Zack Clingan, and DuBois' Landon Hanna pinned Bashore in 1:26.

Also for Hamburg, Kerry Mega (126) placed sixth, Nick Reber (285) was seventh, and Luke Kamp (220) took eighth.

Hamburg (92) placed 11th in the 25-team field. The top three teams were Owen J. Roberts (178), Spring Grove (177.5) and Westfield (161.5).

Halifax crowns 2 Newport champions

NEWPORT - Robbie Moretz (152) and Joey Kaufman (220) cruised to individual championships at the Newport Holiday Tournament.

Moretz (11-0) used two falls, then an 8-1 decision over Penns Valley's Cole Confer in the finals for his gold. Kaufman (11-0) also had two pins and then a 10-7 win over Camp Hill's Gus Bostdorf (14-1) in the title bout.

Halifax (102) finished fourth in the eight-team field. Warrior Run (190.5) won the title, followed by Williamson (179) and Penns Valley (155).

Chad Meko (145) placed third for the Wildcats.

Fourths went to Shane Liddick (126) and Shawn Engle (285); fifths went to Tanner Weldon (113), Hunter Enders (120), Brice Westfall (160) and Travis Enders (195); sixths went to Eric McBurney (106) and Dalton Rode (138); seventh went to Dakota Weldon (132); and eighth went to Ryan Morton (170).

Rams go 2-1 at CMVT Duals

BLOOMSBURG - Dakota Olsen, Troy Patterson and Jordan Rainer all went 3-0 at the Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech Invitational dual-meet event, which was abbreviated due to snow.

The host Rams defeated Bucktail and Sayre but fell to Sullivan County.
