Natura Pet Recalls Four Brands Of Cat And Dog Foods For Possible ...

It seems like only a week ago that we last shared with you the news of a pet food recall??because it was. This week, a kibble sample from Natura Pet turned up with salmonella bacteria, and the company has recalled a wide variety of cat and dog kibbles sold under the California Natural, Evo, Healthwise, and Innova brand names.

Random testing performed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture turned up contaminated food at a retailer, and the company is voluntarily recalling all food produced during the same period in order to make sure no one gets sick.

Salmonella contamination in kibble is particularly dangerous because most pet owners don?t think about cross-contamination when serving up a bowl. It?s a good idea to wash pet food bowls regularly, and especially to wash your hands after handling pet foods, even in kibble form.

In humans, the early symptoms of salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Affected pets may have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. The infection can turn fatal in all species, and you should seek medical attention if you or your pet show any of these symptoms.

Consumers with questions should call Natura at (800) 224-6123 or consult the company?s recall site.
